After 10 years, lions have returned to the Oregon Zoo as part of the new "Predators of the Serengeti" exhibit which opened Sept 12, 2009. The new exhibit features 3 young African lions: 2 females and 1 male, who were born at various zoos across the US. The Oregon Zoo is participating in a Lion breeding program to help restore numbers of the now-endangered African lion species.

But lions are not the only new attraction at the zoo; the new Predators exhibit features African predators both large and small, including Caracal, African Wild Dogs, Cheetahs, Spiders, Mongoose, a Python and more. Careful emphasis has been placed on the interactivity and education of this exhibit, with features like a camera that simulates a Python's vision, an up close viewing area where trainers interact with the lions and wild dogs, and even a see-through dome that allows visitors to pop their heads into the mongoose exhibit.

The Oregon Zoo is a great destination for visitors and residents of Portland, and is easily accessible by car, MAX or bike. If you take the MAX, make sure you keep your ticket because you will receive a $1.50 off your admission price to the zoo (regularly $10.50 for adults and $7.50 for youth.)
